Years 5 and 6 work together under the direction of the class teacher Miss Bancroft, with the support and help of Mrs Pearce and Mrs Dilibero. Together this team make sure that we have access to a rich and varied curriculum with support and encouragement where necessary.
Every morning we talk, think, investigate and practice our maths skills and understanding. We read both independently and as a class and listen to the poem of the day. As part of our topic web for this term - Potions, Explosions and Dreams - We will be reading the Firework Maker's Daughter by Philip Pullman followed by Macbeth. We will study the ancient civilisation of the Shang Dynasty and think about how far dreams can take us in the world. Our Family Learning week this term is 'Be who you want to be', and we already have lots of interesting activities planned.
In Oak Class we also have opportunities to sing in the school choir, learn to play musical instruments and partake in out-of-school activities. We take on roles of responsibility as House and Sports Captains and as members of the School Council. We continue to develop as independent learners and thinkers. We make links across the curriculum and ground our learning in real life situations so that it makes sense to us and is relevant to the way we live now as well as preparing us for the future.
