History underpins all aspects of modern life. The study of history not only ignites children’s curiosity about the past, but also invites them to question why we are who we are today. By discovering how culture, communities and life has changed over time children are able to see how the past and significant events influence the present. Through our timeline approach children are able to develop a sense of their standing in history and broaden their understanding of the chronological framework of significant events and individuals. Learning from history can influence a person’s personal choices, attitudes and values. At The Kite Primary Federation our intent when teaching history is to stimulate a child’s curiosity so that they are more-able to question and understand present events.
