Class 1B

Welcome to Class 1B!

In 1B our teachers are Mrs Salisbury and Mrs Phillpot. Mrs Salisbury teaches us most of the time, but Mrs Phillpot teaches us on a Thursday. In our class we also have Mrs Lewington and Mrs English who help us with our learning in the mornings and on some afternoons. We do Maths, English and Phonics every morning and other subjects, such as Geography, Music, Art, History, ICT and PE in the afternoons.

There is an element of play based learning in our lessons and we work in different groups throughout the day, gradually becoming more independent in our written work over the two years that we spend in this class. We sing lots of songs to help us remember important things and often play learning games on the interactive white board. Mrs Salisbury loves neat handwriting and we learn to write in cursive, making sure that our letters are correctly sized and joined up.

In the first term, our topic was 'Me and My Shadow'. We learnt about the area surrounding our school and studied maps of The United Kingdom. We also studied The Great Fire of London and learnt about the importance of diary writing.

Next, our topic was 'Time Travel'. In English, we researched to find out information about dinosaurs and wrote our own dinosaur fact files. We learnt about our solar system and the planets within it and then found out about significant events in the history of space travel.

This term our topic is 'Terrific Tales'. In Topic we are learning about the Anglo Saxons and what life was like for them. We will look at The Ridgeway, the oldest road in Britain, and learn the tales of The White Horse of Uffington. In English we are focusing on 'The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch', making our own story maps and thinking about what we might have done if we were Mrs Grinling.
